David Ross LeMaster

David Ross LeMaster, 56, of Morganton, NC passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 30, 2015 at his residence.  Born in Escambia County, Alabama on September 17, 1958, he was the son of Willene Smith LeMaster of Pensacola, FL and the late Thomas Jefferson LeMaster. In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” LeMaster.

 David is survived by his wife of 34 years, Vicki Countryman LeMaster; a son, Jeremy Thomas LeMaster and wife, Tracy, of Morganton, and their children, Anthony and Madelyn; a daughter, Rev. Shannon LeMaster-Smith and husband, Jonathan, of Evanston, IL; his grandmother Maggie Smith; his sisters and their spouses, Gloria LeMaster and Hude, Sue and David Wilder, and Jeanne and Bob Pilgrim; his mother-in-law, Barbara Countryman of Pensacola, FL; a number of nephews and nieces, Kimberly, Ryan, Ashley, Summer, Beth, T.J., and Jacob; uncles and aunts, Walt and Jean Coggin, Ann and Jack Ball, Maxine Middleton and Les Johnson, Jim and Patsy Berryman, Joyce and Jerry Loftin, Harold and Gloria Smith and Linda Thomas; lots of cousins whom he loved dearly; and his beloved dog and ice-cream partner, Mo.

David loved all of God’s children and was an active member of The United Methodist Church. He graduated from Pensacola High School (‘76) and The University of South Alabama (’93). Mr. LeMaster worked with the Smith Bakery in Florida and Alabama and later moved to Knoxville, TN to work at Earthgrain’s Bakery.  He retired from Sara Lee Bakery in Valdese, NC. David enjoyed gardening with his grandchildren, skiing with his friends and family, fishing and sailing his Sunfish with anyone who would go with him, helping those in need, and Alabama football.  Most of all, David cherished his family and friends.         

Friends are welcome to come celebrate David’s life at 6pm, Friday April 3, 2015 at the Silver Creek Plantation Club House in Morganton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s and Youth Ministry at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 2239 NC Hwy 181, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
