Debra Gilmore Whisnant

Debra Gilmore Whisnant, 61, of Morganton passed from this life Wednesday, December 13, 2017.  Born in Rome, GA on July 22, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Odell Gilmore and Evelyn LaVerne Chapman Deaton.  Debra was of the Baptist faith.  She was dedicated to making crafts for her loved ones and doted on her grandchildren.  She had worked as a photographer for Olan Mills.

Mrs. Whisnant is survived by her husband, Billy Norman “Bill” Whisnant of the home; sons, Robert Webb and wife, Jenna, of Lincolnton, NC, Christopher Webb of Morganton, and Matthew Whisnant and wife, Kaitlyn, of Morganton; a daughter, LaTonya Gardner and husband, Kevin, of Myrtle Beach, SC; step-sons, Billy Whisnant, Jr. and wife, Kandace, and Jeffery Whisnant and wife, Sandy, both of Morganton; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Dana Jetton and husband, Steve, of Alabama and Cindy Dillard and husband, Gene, of Hudson, NC; a brother, Danny Terry of Alabama; and a number of cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Debra was preceded in death by her step-father, Leon Deaton.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Brady Adkins officiating.  At other times the family will be at the home on Scott Road.
