Debra Hicks

Debra Hicks, 63, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2021.  Born in Springfield, OH on April 22, 1957, she was the daughter of the late William Bumgarner and Naomi Ross Daves.  In addition to her parents, Debra was preceded in death by the late John and Pearlie Piercy, who raised her in Morganton; brother, David Burkhart; and sisters, Pamela Baker and Linda Hyatt.

Debra was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family and friends and enjoyed making crafts.  Debra was a former employee of the Burke County Department of Social Service.  She never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who met her.

Debra is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ralph Hicks; daughters, Tonia Anderson-Franklin (Dean) and Christina Hicks; sons, Billy Hicks (Carol) and Johnny Hicks (Lynne); grandchildren, Jessica Roland, Carey Corcoran, Daniel Hicks, Alex Hicks, Megan Hicks, Kelby Hicks, Kaleb Hicks, and Christian Branch; brother, Roger Burkhart; sister, Vickie Anthony; a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her fur baby, Benji.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2021 at Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Jack Hodges officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
