Delcie Crowder Garland

Delcie Crowder Garland, 84, of Morganton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Born in Avery County, NC on January 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Earl Crowder and Ader Rose Crowder. Delcie was a member of Rocky Pass Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School at Hankins Baptist Church. She retired from Henredon Furniture Company. She was an avid gardener and loved to can and cook. Delcie dearly loved her family.Mrs. Garland is survived by her son, Frank Junior Garland and his wife, Reba, of Morganton; daughters, Glenda Hatton of Hudson, NC and Margaret Norman of Morganton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Crowder of Hopewell, VA; and sisters, Lucille Clark and Lavon Smith, both of Morganton.In addition to her parents, Delcie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Richard Garland; a son, Steven C. Garland; brothers, Roscoe, Brown, Clifford, and Lawrence Crowder; and sisters, Dorothy Wiseman, Esther Pittman, and Gertrude Dellinger.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012 at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Newland, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Delcie’s home on Duckworth Circle, Morganton.Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
