Dennis A Guffey

Dennis A Guffey, 61, of Morganton, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 28, 2017. He was born on February 13, 1956 in Rutherford County to Gene Donald Guffey and the late Barbara Capps Burgess. Dennis was a member of the first graduating class of Freedom High School. He began working with Hanes and later worked for Sara Lee Corporation. He was currently working as a CNA at Broughton Hospital. Dennis loved playing music, flying model airplanes and collecting and restoring Volkswagens. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Robin Burgess.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Alicia Guffey and Allison Guffey, both of Morganton; son, Josh Guffey of Mississippi; step-father, Norman Burgess of Morganton; grandchildren, Noah Goodman, Marlo Bachelder, and Kearsten Guffey; brothers, Tim Guffey and Pam Taylor of Morganton, Donald Guffey and wife, Janice of Rock Hill, SC; step-brothers, Ken Burgess and wife, Emy, David Burgess, and Brian Burgess and wife, Rhonda, all of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A Celebration of Dennis’s Life will follow at 6:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. At other times, the family will be at the home of Tim and Pam Guffey.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
