Dennis Lee Yancey, 71, of Morganton passed away Monday, January 1, 2018. Born in Burke County, NC on December 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Harold Lee Yancey and Pauline Grace Crooks Yancey. Dennis was a member of Glen Alpine Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and enjoyed watching automobile racing. He loved to talk and never met a stranger. He loved his family very much.
A loving husband and father, Mr. Yancey is survived by his wife, Helen “Jeanette” Whisnant Yancey of the home; daughter, Laura A. Yancey of the home; brother, Randy Yancey of Morganton; sister, Patricia D. Yancey of Marion, NC; nephews, David Whisnant, Jamie Browning, Chris Padgett, Tony Padgett, and Dean Padgett; nieces, Angela Dreer, Janice Diab, Jerri Whisnant, Beth Whisnant, and Donna Olson; a number of great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved furry friends, Chester, Knight, Hunnyboo, and Stripes.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Yancey.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Keith Rose and the Rev. Stephen Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard. At other times the family will be at the home on Spainhour Road.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
