Dennis Ray Chapman

Dennis Ray Chapman, 44, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on November 22, 1970, he was the son of Jeanette Buff Nichols of Robbinsville, NC and the late Tony Ray Chapman. Dennis enjoyed driving a truck, going to church, reading his bible, and spending time with Beth and their puppies, Snowy and Oreo. He attended Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his companion of 20 years, Beth Whisnant of the home; children, Sarah Ford and fiancé, Josh Ledford, and Jonathan Chapman, all of Morganton; a brother, Bennett Chapman and wife, Tracey, of Morganton; sisters, Sherry Downs and Sara Payne and husband, Michael, all of Morganton; a step-sister, Tammy Nichols of Stafford, VA; a step-brother, Jamie Nichols and wife, Pam, of Icard; a grandson, Jacob Ledford; an aunt, Jeanette Fisher and husband, Vernon, of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by sister, Tonia Chapman; paternal grandparents, Leonard and Joyce Chapman; and maternal grandparents, Annie Stamey Buff and Ambers Lenoir Buff.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at the church at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
