Dennis Theodore Carswell, 63 of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of Drexel, NC passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Dennis was born in Burke County, NC on January 29, 1953 to the late Theodore “Bud” Carswell and Daisy Elizabeth Starnes Carswell.
Dennis was a graduate of Drexel High School and of Appalachian State University. He had a love for music and enjoyed teaching this fine art to his students. He taught music in several high schools in North and South Carolina prior to his retirement from Hibriten High School.
Dennis is survived by his two sisters, Betty C. Rockett and Lynda C. Davis both of Valdese and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by sisters, Janice Carswell Woodruff and Barbara Carswell Ritchie.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Drexel Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hibriten High School Band, 1350 Panther Trail, Lenoir, NC 28645.
