Dessie C. Champion

Dessie C. Champion, 67, of Morganton died Monday, May 18, 2015. Dessie was born July 25, 1947 in Cleveland County to the late Charlie Cline Canipe and Macie Chapman Canipe. She was a mother with a big heart and would welcome anyone into her heart and home. Dessie was very active in AA, fun loving and a very spoiling grandmother.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Coleman and Warren Canipe; and a sister, Shirley Canipe; and the father of her children, Jack Champion.
Dessie is survived by her daughters, Lisa Champion Lopez, Susan Champion Ragle, and Crystal Champion all of Morganton; a son, Jeremy Philbeck of Morganton; son-in-laws, Cruz Lopez and Sean Ragle; grandchildren, Taylor Marie Philbeck, Jeremy Logan Philbeck, Jacksyn Cruz Lopez, Greyson Lee Ragle, and Dautry Sean Ragle; sister, Daphine Huffman; and brothers, Jerry Canipe and Jackie Canipe and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7:00 p.m., in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center to help with funeral expenses.
