Diane Kovalycsik Byrnes, 71, peacefully left us on March 11, 2015 after a long illness. Born June 26, 1943 to the late George & Maria Kovalycsik, Diane resided in Garfield and Bogota, NJ before retiring to Valdese, NC. She graduated from Jersey City medical Center School of Nursing in 1964 and passionately pursued her career as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She lovingly dedicated her entire life to caring for others and for animals, but most especially for her surviving daughters, Allison Schoonhen and Jamie Byrnes.
Diane is also survived by her son-in-law, Dan Schoonhen, and two grandsons, Tommy & Andy, as well as her 6 brothers and sisters and their significant others – Deb Kovalycsik & Kristi Kiger, Susan Ali, Gail Mastroberte, Joann & Richard Heyden, Jess & Barbara Kovalycsik, Nicholas & Peggy Kovalycsik, along with ten nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her fiancée, Donald Hunter.
A memorial service to celebrate Diane’s life will be held on March 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home, Morganton, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC and A Better Life Animal Rescue, 1000 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC.
