Doff Everett “Driver” Browning, 74, of Morganton, NC, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 after a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on January 1, 1948, he was the son of the late McCarthy D. and Carolyn B. Browning. Doff was a 1966 graduate of Glen Alpine High School where he earned the nickname “Driver.” He was employed for forty years with the City of Morganton, Engineering/Development and Design. After he retired, he took care of his precious mother until her passing in 2017. Doff was a simple man and a friend to everyone he met. He was a regular at Throneburg’s Garage every morning, enjoying the company of his lifelong friends.
Doff is survived by his wife, Teresa W. Browning; brother, Michael Brittain (Carol); sister, Vickie B. Effler (Johnny); aunts, Bennie Lois Dale and Gin Creswell; special nephew, Rider Gouge; mother-in-law, Freddie B. Whisnant; and sister-in-law, Brenda J. Whisenant.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Kevin Sizemore officiating. The family requests those in attendance to wear a mask and social distance.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
