Don O’Brian Berry, 79, of Valdese, NC, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on November 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Lester Edwin Berry and Florence Edna Townsend Berry. Don was a proud US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a true patriot who loved his country. Don enjoyed traveling, boating, and spending the day on the lake with his family. He loved spending his vacations at Myrtle beach, in Biloxi, MS, and on Cruise ships. He was a talented handyman who loved to work. His favorite hobby was bowling. Don was a loving father to a total of six children; one was his own, the others he raised as his own. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Rector Berry; sons, Michael Berry (Tonya) and Joey Berry (Beth); daughters, Paula Hammock (Joe), Jessica Pressley (Daniel), and Ashley Payne; step-children, Patricia Brinkley (William) and Mark Rector (Donielle); ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Warlick (Jerry) and Carolyn Morgan; and numerous extended family.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Berry; daughter, Pamela Payne; grandson, Scott Berry; sisters, Audry Allison and Rachel Berry; and brother Wayne Berry.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. with Rev. Mason Duvall and Scott Lowman officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
