Don Peeler, 72, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, February 13, 2014. Born in Cleveland County, NC on April 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Colen Lee Peeler and Minnie Swink Peeler. Don was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and he loved to fish and garden. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.Don is survived by his wife, Ann Benfield Peeler of the home; children, Donna Peeler, Angie Ledford and her husband, Rod, Keith Chapman, Greg Chapman, Dianne Chapman, and Dorenda Huffman; grandchildren, Ben, Joe, and Luke Ledford, Daniel Huffman, Jacob Chapman and Christine Chapman; great-grandson, Peyton Chapman; siblings, Ruth Parker and her husband, W.A., Kenneth Peeler and his wife, Jonnie, and Roger Peeler and his wife, Evelyn; sister-in-law, Faye Peeler and his feline companion, Fred.In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Peeler.
The funeral will be held at 3pm, Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lawrence and the Rev. Earl Cross officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 2-3pm prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Hill United Methodist Church Youth Fund or the MPAC Fund, 2239 NC 181, Morganton, NC 28655 or to the American Kidney Foundation, Finance Dept., 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
