Don Row Smith

Don Row Smith, 88, of Morganton died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Valdese. Born October 15, 1922 in Bushnell, NC, he was a son of the late George and Hettie Anthony Smith. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Arnold; and three sisters. Don was a US Navy veteran of World War II.Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Virginia D. Smith of the home; grandchildren, Missey Fontenot and husband, Mitch, of Morganton; and Elisa de Groot and husband, Derk, of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Lexie Kirkland of Candler, NC, and Flonnie Peeler of Bryson City, NC; their son-in-law, Wayne Arnold of Valdosta, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Cryptside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. David Orders officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assocation, Memorial & Tribute Processing Center, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060, or Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
