Donald Leroy Abernethy

Donald Leroy Abernethy, 86, of Wilkesboro, NC died Monday, August 10, 2015. Born April 27, 1929 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late William Raymond Abernethy and Exie Pitts Abernethy. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a son, Ben Abernethy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Etta Shull Abernethy of the home; children, Donetta Abernethy Barlow and husband, Curtis of Wake Forest, NC, and Randy Abernethy and wife, Kim of Wilkesboro, NC; a daughter-in-law, Laura Abernethy Walsh and husband, Calvin of N. Wilkesboro, NC; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Glen Alpine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Christian Children’s Home, PO Box 2777, N. Wilkesboro, NC 28659, or to Samaritan’s Kitchen of Wilkes, Inc., 4187 US 421, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.
