Donald W. Smith

Donald W. Smith, 96, of Britthaven of Morganton died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born November 13, 1913 in Burke County, and was a son of the late Frank Rankin Smith and Ella Huffman Smith. Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a retired employee of Morganton Full Fashion Hosiery Mill. He was an avid golfer.Donald is survived by a son, Wilson A. Smith and wife, Barbara, of Morganton; a daughter, Donnell Catherines of Norfolk, VA; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Buff Smith; a brother; and three sisters.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the service.
