Donna Lee Turner Higgins

Donna Lee Turner Higgins, 91 of Morganton, formally of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, May 24th, 2022.

Donna was born in Kansas City to the Late James Everette Turner and Freda Snyder. Donna enjoyed tap dancing, and her childhood dream was to be a Rockett. She met her late husband Donald in a light opera production where he was the producer.

Donna was a homemaker who worked hard raising four children and volunteered in various organizations. As her children got older, she got part-time jobs. Donna had a great love of books, and worked for several years as a substitute in the Pack-Memorial Library system.

She never gave up her dancing. She taught a group of seniors to tap at a senior center and they went around entertaining residents at nursing homes. This group also won gold at the Senior Games.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her Husband Donald Van Dyke Higgins, and her son, Chris Higgins.

She is survived by her children Greg Prescott Higgins, Tery  Dianne Higgins  and her husband Brian Welch,  Kim Higgins Clardy and her husband Aaron; three Grandchildren Melissa Brown( Kris ), Jessica Hunter (Anthony) of Australia, and Kathleen Krisher (Nerian Wurzbacher) ; and seven great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on June 26th, 2022 at 3:00 at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Marion, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Carolina Caring Hospice or Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
