Doris Benfield LaFevers, 90 years old, passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, December 9th with family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Addie Daves Benfield and Samuel Marcus Benfield. She was a lifelong resident of Burke County and was residing at Grace Ridge Retirement Community.
Surviving are her loving husband of 71 years, Ned W. LaFevers; a daughter, Myra L. Liles and husband, Henry Liles, Jr.; a son, Wade W. LaFevers; and a granddaughter, Lauren Hillary Liles and fiancé, Tyler M. Lancaster.
Doris was a homemaker and retired playschool teacher at Collett Street Recreation Center. Before becoming a caregiver to her husband, Ned, Doris enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and crafts. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Morganton, NC. Her family was her greatest joy in life.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dana McKim officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery.
