Doris Faye Wilson, 80, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Doris was born in Richmond County, NC to the late Robert C. Crawford and Lillie Bledsoe Crawford. Doris was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. She owned several local businesses. She enjoyed baking, and watching old westerns.
Doris is survived by her son, John Thomas Gathings; Grandchildren, Amelia Thompson, and Colt Jones; and sister Shirley Crawford; and a close friend, Carol Buchanan.
In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her first husband John Gathings; second husband, James Phifer Wilson; daughter, Jonnell Jay Jones; and sister Kitty Peagram.
A graveside service will be held at Burkemont Baptist Church Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 2pm, with the Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton officiating. The family will greet friends following the graveside service.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I always enjoyed the many visits in her home while I lived in Morganton.Doris was always on the up beat even with her limitations. She will not be limited any more.RIP A friend Derald Sweeney
So sorry to hear of Doris’ passing. I used to work for her and John and the Redi Deli. They gave me my first job. I also went to Salem and Freedom with Jay. Always enjoyed those Halloween parties. My condolences to the family.
