Doris Hill Sink

Doris Hill Sink, 95, died on July 4 at Autumn Care of Drexel after several years of declining health. Doris was born on June 9, 1926 in Lexington, NC to David Hill Swing and Mae Lohr Swing. She was married to her husband of 59 years, Luther G. Sink, Jr. on October 5, 1947.

Doris completed a business course at Lenoir Rhyne University and worked as a medical secretary at Broughton Hospital. She lived her adult life in Morganton, except for a one and a half year stay in Lexington when "LG" returned to active duty in the Army to serve in the Korean Conflict. A devoted wife and mother, she attended all of the children's school functions, drove them to all of their activities, and supervised daily homework. Doris enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her special pound cakes.

She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, serving as President of the Lutheran Church Women, Sunday School Teacher, and charter member of the Altar Guild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Luther G. Sink, Jr., grandson Luke Sink, and sister Evelyn Sheppard. She is survived by daughter Becky Schlein and husband Chuck of Morganton; son Ronnie Sink and wife Kathy of Lexington, KY; grandson Ryan Sink and wife Sabrina of Raleigh; granddaughter Katie Bickel and husband John of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Lilly, and Alyssa; sister-in- law Betty Sink of Lexington, NC and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Sossoman Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 7 from 7-8:30 PM. Due to the weather, the services have changed.  The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 8 at 11 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lexington with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating.  Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Autumn Care and in-home caregivers Eula and Bernice for their dedicated care.
