Doris L. Whisnant

Doris L. Whisnant, 82, of Coopers Loop, Morganton, NC was called home by her Lord on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Grace Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Davidson County, NC on November 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Leon Lamb and Flossie Hartley Lamb. Doris was a faithful member of Mount Home Baptist Church. She retired from Belk Department Store after thirty-five years. Most recently she proudly worked at Chic-Fil-A in Morganton.Doris is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Billy Rhyne Whisnant of the home; a daughter, Shirley Snipes and husband, Travis, of Morganton; grandchildren, Brandi Behlke and husband, Rein, Kirk Franklin and wife, Cheryl, Rhonda Lee and husband, David, and Justin Snipes and wife, Brandy; great-grandchildren, Emma, Deacon, Derek, Lauren, Kristen, Rylan, and Brooks; a brother, Tommy Lambe; and sisters, Della Morgan and Peggy Justus.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Rhyne Whisnant; an infant daughter, Diane Whisnant; and a brother, Lee Junior Lambe.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2009 at Mount Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial park. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
