Doris Maxine Roper Koehler, 82, of Morganton died Monday, August 25, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on December 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Roper and Pearl McGalliard Roper. Doris served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mrs. Koehler is survived by her husband, CMSGT (Ret.) Robert Alfred Koehler, with whom she would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on September 4th.
In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by a son, Robert John Koehler and his wife, Cynthia Elizabeth, of Lincolnton, NC; grandchildren, Sgt. Robert Zachary Koehler, USMC and his wife, Kathrine, of San Diego, CA and Tara Michelle Whiteside and her husband, Matthew, of Concord, NC; a great-grandson, Robert William Koehler; and siblings, Jerry Wesley Roper and his wife, Helen, and Sarah Aleta “Tippy” Doak and her husband, Bill, all of Morganton.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Laura Vallee, Betty Sue Welch, and Ruby Irene Roper.
The graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veteran Honor Guard. The family will receive at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center on Wednesday from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.
