Doris Stephens Carswell

Doris Stephens Carswell, 84, of 132 Harbison Dr. in Morganton died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Autumn Care of Drexel following a period of declining health. She was born September 23, 1925 in Burke County, and was a daughter of the late Albert Franklin Stephens, Sr. and Virginia Harriett Pascall Stephens. Doris was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church, and a retired seamstress from Shadowline. Doris loved to sew for her family and friends, and was an avid flower gardener.Doris is survived by a son, Joseph Franklin Carswell and wife, Susan, of Morganton; grandchildren, Misha Lovelace Wilson and husband, Michael, Joseph Shane Carswell and fiancé, Katherine Thompson, and Shanna Carswell-Worley and husband, Ricky, all of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Matthew Wilson, Kristian Wilson, Joseph Lawrence Carswell, Kayla Wilson, Haven Worley, Jeffery Carswell, and Emma Carswell; brothers, Robert Stephens and wife, Franda, of Morganton, and Ralph Stephens and wife, Barbara, of Raleigh; sisters, Viola Longo, Lois Tolbert and husband, William, and Jackie Metcalf and husband, Ronald, all of Morganton; a step-brother, Ted Lane and wife, Catherine, of Morganton; and a host of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Daniel Carswell; daughter, Linda Carswell Lovelace; brother, Albert F. "Junior" Stephens and wife, Adelee; sister, Ruth Carlisle; and step-mother, June Lane Stephens.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2010 at El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Cooper and Rev. David Bean officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at the church. At other times, the family will be at the son’s residence, 1192 Creekwood Dr. in Morganton.
