Doris U. Grill

Doris Grill, 88, of Morganton, NC, passed from this life into eternity Sunday, November 10, 2019. She was born on October 2, 1931 in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany to the late Erwin Karl Mezger and Luise Stoecker Mezger. Mrs. Grill was a bus driver for the Burke County Public Schools for over 30 years before retirement. She was a woman of deep faith who loved attending church, singing in the choir, and participating in activities as long as she was able.  

Mrs. Grill was preceded in death by husband, Dr. (Major) Henry Stephen Grill; brother, Erwin Mezger; and son-in-law, Lt. Col. Edward DuRant III. Mrs. Grill is survived by daughters Patricia DuRant, Melissa Grill, and Rev. Charlotte Brendel (Leonard); sons Larry Grill (Anne) and Jack Grill (Donna); grandchildren April Foster, Stephanie Brendel Hatley (Brian), Tony Brendel, Ned DuRant (Jessica), Anna DuRant Roberts (Drew), Stephen Grill (Michelle), and David Grill (Brandi). Great-grandchildren are Zachary Burgin, Kali Griffin, Cadence Hatley, Noah Hatley, Ethan DuRant, Ellie DuRant, Julianna Roberts, John Roberts, Emily Grill, Meghan Grill, Brooke Krohman (Tony), Lexi Grill, Krista Grill, and Kyle Grill. Mrs. Grill is survived by sisters Edith Guelzow (Carl), Margot Wilson, Jutta Lange, and Mariluise Larsen; and brother Klaus Mezger.

A private graveside service will be held November 27 at Salisbury National Cemetery, where Mrs. Grill will be buried with her husband, Major Henry Stephen Grill.
