Dorothy "Dot" Dellinger Crooks

Dorothy "Dot" Dellinger Crooks, 76, of Nebo, NC passed away on the afternoon of Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Palliative Care Center of the Catawba Valley with her loving husband, Jim, at her bedside. Dorothy and Jim, who were childhood sweethearts, spent their early years traveling throughout Europe and lived in Anaheim, CA. They enjoyed an outdoor life of skiing, hunting, and fishing as constant companions. In 1992 they returned to Burke County and established Linville River’s End Family Campground to continue their shared love of the outdoors.During their early years in Anaheim, Dot was a faithful member of First Southern Baptist Church in Fullerton, CA where she was very active in the youth program. She was employed by Transamerica Financial in Fullerton for many years.Dorothy was a very family oriented. She frequently traveled back to North Carolina from Anaheim to help care for her parents, Ben and Essie Flynn Dellinger, during their declining years. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by two brothers, J. C. and Alvin Dellinger; and an infant sister, Lola Beatrice, who passed after eight days.Dorothy is survived by her husband of 58 years, James R. Crooks of the home; brothers, Ray Dellinger and wife, Hazel, and Carl Dellinger and wife, Belle, both of the Longtown Community; sisters, Laura Johnson and husband, Johnny, and Sue Chapman, both of the Longtown Community; and many loving nieces and nephews who will remember all the good visits, birthday cards, presents, and vacation trips.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Edwards and Dr. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
