Dorothy “Dot” Ethel Stamey Edney

Dorothy “Dot” Ethel Stamey Edney, 80, of Morganton, NC passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018. She was born April 30, 1937 in Burke County, NC and was the daughter of the late Kelly Woodrow Stamey and Mattie Sue Duckworth Stamey. Dot loved reading and gardening. Her heart was her grandkids. She also loved her dogs and enjoyed going to auctions. Dot was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Ledford, Carolyn Cassell, and Mary Cook.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Edney; son, Alvin Smith and wife, Tammy of Morganton; grandsons, Steven Chandler Smith and Daniel Alvin Smith; step-sons, Richard Edney and Tony Edney; step-daughter, Wendy Green; special nieces, Linda Bandy, Carissa Shehan, and Cathy Knight; sisters, Nina Huffman and Barbara Harrison and husband, Bennett; brothers, Bobby Stamey and wife, Wanda and Larry Stamey and wife, Linda; brother-in-law, Jerry Cook; numerous nieces and nephews; and special k9 companions, Rascal and Coco.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Catawba Valley Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Dean Hart and Brother Adam Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Catawba Valley Baptist Church, P.O. Drawer 1580, Morganton, NC 28680.
