Dorothy "Edna" Carswell

Dorothy "Edna" Carswell, 79, of Morganton passed away unexpectedly, Friday, March 5, 2010 at her residence. Born April 22, 1930 to the late Rose Velt Carswell and Zena Smith Carswell, she was a lifelong resident of Burke County. Ms. Carswell was of the Baptist faith. She attended school at Salem and then worked as a mender for Morganton Hosiery and Hanes for over 50 years until her retirement. Ms. Carswell was an avid gardener and cook, and loved her family.She is survived by her daughter, Kathie Dianne Carswell of the home; brothers, John Ervin Carswell and Frank Carswell, both of Morganton; a sister, Ruby Watson of Lenoir, NC; special niece, April Rose Carswell Peeler; special great-nephew, Jesse Ervin Peeler; nieces, Theresa Robbins and Karen Walker; nephews, Tommy, Donald, David, Jimmy, and Randy Carswell, Dewayne and Joey Watson; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.In addition to her parents, Ms. Carswell was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Carswell; sister, Cathleen Carswell; nephew, Ricky Allen Carswell; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Chapman Carswell; and brother-in-law, Roger Watson.A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Alan Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home.
