Dorothy Hutchins Brittain

Dorothy Hutchins Brittain, 87, of Bayshore Dr., Nebo, NC, and formerly of Stamey Ave. in Morganton, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at Morganton Long Term Care. She was born April 16, 1919 in McDowell County, NC, and was a daughter of the late J. Prentiss Hutchins and Clemma Lee Melton Hutchins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Virgil Brittain; a daughter, Iris Helen Singleton; a son, James Singleton, Jr.; and a number of brothers and sisters. Dorothy attended the Salvation Army Church.

She is survived by a son, Donald Leon Singleton of Quantico, MD; a daughter, Gena Singleton of Nebo with whom Dorothy made her home; grandchildren, Douglas Alexander Singleton of Fresno, CA, An-Michelle Singleton of Chicago, IL, David Edward Singleton of Nashville, TN, Donald Lee Singleton of Whimpy Island, WA, Donald Leon Singleton, Jr. of New York, NY, and Tina Brittainy Singleton of Nebo; and a number of nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Captain David Chapman of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 until 3 pm at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 50-D Bayshore Dr., Nebo. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
