Dorothy “Jean” Burnette Gibbs passed away October 27, 2024, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Jean was born July 15, 1943, In McDowell County, the daughter of the late Paul Thomas and Evelyn Stroud Burnette and grew up in Old Fort, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Gibbs, sister Katheryn “Dib”, and brother Paul Burnette.

She was married to the love of her life Larry Gibbs for 59 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and Mamaw.

Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She retired from Leviton (Southern Devices) in Glen Alpine, NC. After retirement she and Larry built their retirement home in Lenoir, NC. Jean was blessed with a close-knit family and many friends who filled her life with joy, laughter, and support.

Children Angela Gibbs Rudd (Ken) of Mount Holly, NC and Christopher Thomas Gibbs (Michele) of Lenoir.

Grandchildren Andrew Rudd of Mount Holly, NC; Gracie Gibbs of Lenoir, NC; and Kristen Gibbs of Lenoir, NC.

Special family members Hoppi Robertson of Old Fort, NC and Ann Morgan of Marion, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm, Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at McDowell Memorial Park.
