Dorothy M. Buchanan

Dorothy M. Buchanan, 77, of New Haven Circle, Morganton, NC, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at her residence. Born in Haywood County, NC on July 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Emmett Mashburn and Margretta Smiley Mashburn. Dorothy was a member of Dysartsville Missionary Baptist Church.A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she is survived by a son, Tommy Buchanan and wife, Susie, of Morganton; daughter, Glenda Moody and husband, Bill, of Piedmont, AL, Becky Beaver and husband, Dennis, of Morganton, Patsy "Pat" Powell of Nebo, and Darlean Smith and husband, Jim, of Nebo; a brother, Harvey Mashburn; sisters, Gladys Bower, Thelma Morton, Hazel Mashburn, Sharon Crisp, and Geneva Penson; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Buck" Tooms Buchanan; brother, Earl and Jimmy Mashburn; and an infant daughter, Shelby Jean Buchanan.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Dysartsville Missionary Baptist Church with Reverends John Cope and Walker Toney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
