Dorothy Mae Franklin McCall

Dorothy Mae Franklin McCall, 89, of Morganton passed away Monday, August 25, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on August 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Robey Franklin and Cora Wilson Franklin. Dorothy retired from Leviton in 1991 and enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and working outside. She played basketball as a child and enjoyed watching her granddaughters play too. Dorothy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Jack" Jackson McCall, Sr.; son, William "Bill" Jackson McCall, Jr.; brothers, Lewis and Arthur Franklin; sisters, Mary Lou Crump, Mattie Pearl Franklin, and Kitty Sue Cobb; and grandson, William Jonathon McCall.
Dorothy is survived by daughter, Elaine Bridges of Morganton; grandchildren, Michelle Smith and husband, Chris, Melissa Blankenship and husband, Jeff all of Morganton and James Christopher McCall of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Chandler Reid Smith of Morganton, Meagan Elizabeth McCall, and Andrew Jacob McCall all of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Luther "Bud" Franklin and wife, Frances, of Morganton; sisters, Betty Ross of Morganton and Ida Bell of Calhoun, GA; and daughter-in-law, Leslie Jean Ford McCall of Weiser, ID.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Reverends Danny Emory, Jerry Gamble and David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund, 1112 Hopewell Rd., Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd. Valdese, NC 28690.
