Dorothy “Nelleen” Roper Ross, 87, of Morganton, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019. Born on February 15, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Eloise Roper. Nelleen was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. She enjoyed her flowers, bird watching, and loved (her) dog, Dessie. Nelleen was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a very quiet person, but always took care of her family.
Nelleen is survived by her sons, Bennett Ross (Gladys) and Bobby Ross (Barbara); daughter, Cheryl Childres (Brian); seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren; brother, Billy Joe Roper; sisters, Ruth Walker and Brenda McCurry; and a number of niece and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Nelleen is preceded in death by her husband Owen Connelly Ross; brothers, Winford Roper, Carroll Roper, Wayne Luther Roper; sisters, Betty Roper and Edna Roper.
The family will receive friends from 11 until noon, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Burkemont Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow in the church with the Rev. Eddy Bunton and Dr. Luke Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank all the employees at Grace Heights and Burke Hospice for their care to their mother.
