Dortha "Dottie" Cooper, 70, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Burke County, NC on July 20, 1943, she was the daughter of the late William Porter Cooper and Handy "Hannie" Neomia Clark Cooper. Dottie was a member of Bible Baptist Church. She loved her church and being around children. Dottie was an exceptional caregiver and will be missed by all who knew her.Dottie is survived by brothers, Frank Cooper and his companion, Kathy Smith, and William Cooper, both of Morganton; sisters, Ruby McNeely of Morganton, Bertha Smith and her husband, Gerald, of Valdese, NC, Bettie Smith of Lenoir, NC, and Leola Hildebran of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie M. Cooper and Velsie Lowdermilk.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Watkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Dottie will be open to viewing by the public from 9:00 until 11:30 am on Monday at Sossoman Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
