Doug M. Perkins, 60, of the Bridgewater Community, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 18, 2018.
Born in Burke County, NC on August 3, 1958, he was the son of Doris Faye Byrd Perkins of Morganton and the late Frank Morris Perkins. Doug was a member of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and served as the church treasurer. He owned and operated Perkins Heating and Air for over 35 years. He was a 20+ year member of the West End Fire Department, where he was currently serving as deputy chief. Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had served as an assistant scout leader with Boy Scout Troop 197 and was a member of Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217. He was a giving person who put everyone else before him.
Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Bonnie Scott Perkins of the home; son, William S. Perkins (Carolyn) of Morganton; beloved grandchildren, Emery and Gibson Perkins; brother, David G. Perkins (Shelia) of Glen Alpine; nephew, Dawson Perkins; and niece, Abby Nunez.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 22 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jacob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Bridgewater Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
