Douglas Howard Clark, 58, of Nolan Wood Heights, Morganton, NC died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County, NC on May 17, 1948 and was a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt Clark and Cordia Berry Clark. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Emory Delion Clark and Rev. T. R. Clark, Jr. Mr. Clark was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and served with the 1st and 8th Calvary from 1968 to 1969. As a Sgt. First Class he was an expert rifleman and received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Hartland Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughter and her husband, Sharon and Jon Files of Hickory; a grandson, Spencer Huffman; sisters, Lois Arney, Joyce LeFevre, and Brenda Crowe, all of Lenoir; his former wife, Paula Franklin Clark, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Hartland Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 234 of Valdese. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church. .Memorial contributions may be made to Hartland Baptist Church Building Fund, 3730 Hartland Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
