Dr. Michael Walter Knoelke, 69, of Morganton passed away Friday, March 9, 2018. Born on June 12, 1948 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Walter A. Knoelke and Elaine Stoltz Knoelke. He attended the University of Miami Medical School, with an internship through Duke University at Highland Hospital. Dr. Knoelke worked at Broughton Hospital and several mental health clinics. He enjoyed basketball, tennis, Indy-Car races, music, and playing his clarinet. He loved his family and spending time with his animals.
Dr. Knoelke is survived by his wife, Peggy Moore Knoelke of the home; daughters, Gretchen Kelsey Knoelke and Kristina Elizabeth Anderson and husband, Justin; and a brother, Walter Michael Knoelke of Navarre, FL.
He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held for Dr. Knoelke.
