Dwight Walter “Bruce” Brakefield

Dwight Walter “Bruce” Brakefield, 87, of Morganton, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 3, 2019. Born in Gaston County, NC on June 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Boyd B. Brakefield and Myra Maltba Harris. Bruce was an active member of First Baptist Church and was an avid golfer. He retired from the United States Air Force and continued as a Civil Service Contractor with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.

Bruce is survived by his children, Gaile Christine Brakefield of Puyallup, WA; Winn Robin Waters of Denver, CO; Marissa Diane Valles (Hector) of Tacoma, WA; and Brooke Elizabeth Smith (Brad) of Eatonville, WA; grandchildren, Colin, Caitlin, Dustin, Shawnna, Westley, Cassandra, and Charlotte; step-grandson, Chris Witherspoon (Tanya) his children, Carson, and Allie; and six great-grandchildren Jasario, Janiah, Eliana , Naomi, Dustin and Riley.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Ann Rolofson Brakefield; second wife, Martha Nell Smith Brakefield; two brothers; and two sisters.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at 12pm, Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating with military honors provided by the N. C. National Guard. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
