Earl Maxwell Morris, 91, of Morganton, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Born in McDowell County, NC on August 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Marion Maxwell Morris and Bertha Pritchard Morris. Earl was an active member of Cane Creek Baptist Church and was loved by his church family. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New York during World War II. He was proud to serve our country and retain our freedom. Mr. Morris had worked as a security guard at Miami International Airport and retired from Summitville Textiles.
Earl is survived by his daughters, Barbara M. Bradley and husband, Louis, of Union Mills, NC and Kathryn M. Castalonia and husband, Robert, of Elizabethtown, NC; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gladys Brewer of Roanoke, VA, Edith White of Morganton, and Frances West of Roanoke.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Sabolyk Morris; a son, Edward Morris; brothers, Frank and James Morris; and sisters, Ethel Flowers and Esther Green.
The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Danny Camp officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
