Edgar Gibbs, Jr.

Edgar Gibbs, Jr., 82, of Morganton, NC passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015.  Born in Pope County, IL on November 25, 1932, he was the son of the late Edgar Gibbs and Estella Yates Gibbs.  Mr. Gibbs was a U.S. Army veteran of the European Theater of WWII.  Mr. Gibbs lived and worked in several different places: he worked for Devico Trucking and Detroit Plastics in Michigan, held several jobs in Arizona, worked for STP Corporation in Illinois, and finally worked for Family Dollar in Charlotte, NC.

Edgar is survived by his wife, Juanita Foxx Gibbs of the home; a son, Phillip Gibbs and his wife, Wanda, of Morganton; grandchildren, Travis Gibbs and Krystal Houk and her husband, Ben; great-grandchildren, Chase Gibbs and Skarlett Houk; brothers, Joe, Dock, Charles, and Harold Lee Gibbs; and a sister, Dorothy Gibbs.

In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by a brother, Carol Gibbs.

The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with the Rev. Bud Harmon officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the family to help with expenses.
