Edgar Harper Harris

Edgar Harper Harris, 79, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on October 13, 1934, he was the son of the late J. J. Harris and Della Singleton Harris. Harper attended Zion Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Broyhill Furniture Industries as a long distance truck driver. Mr. Harris had a passion for growing roses, gardening, and riding his John Deere tractor.Harper is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rachel Franklin Harris; daughters, Camille H. Derreberry and her husband, Mendell, of Morganton and Anita Harris and her boyfriend, Carroll Mooneyham of Hickory, NC; granddaughters, Minda Daniels and her husband, Mark, and Keely Pritchard and her husband, Travis; great-grandchildren, Daylin, Zaydin, and Kaydin Pritchard, and Zakry Daniels, all of Morganton; three nephews; three nieces; a special cousin, Jerry Fox Hunter; and a brother-in-law, Ray Aikens.In addition to his parents, awaiting Harper in heaven is a brother, sister, niece, and a precious great-grandson, Rocklin "Duder" Pritchard.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. George Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.The family wishes to thank the staff of Autumn Care of Drexel for the loving care they provided.
