Edgar Lee Cole

Rev. Edgar Lee Cole, 92, of Morganton, NC went to be with his Savior and Lord on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Grace Heights in Morganton. Born in Davie County, NC on April 17, 1918, he was a son of the late David Fleming and Laura Chapel Cole.He is survived by sons, Sherrill Lee Cole and his wife, Glenda of Drexel, NC, William Cole and his wife, Jerri of Jonesborough, TN, Herbert Cole and his wife, Dawn of Granite Falls, NC; Eddie Cole of Fleetwood, NC, and Timothy Cole of Morganton, NC; a daughter, Priscilla Cole Johnson and husband, Charles of Conover, NC; grandchildren, Terry Cole, Randal Cole, Cynthia McNeill, Rica Shoffner, and Shannon Austin; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl Cole of Oxford, PA; and a sister, Maude Vannoy of Winston-Salem, NC.In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Argyle Cole of 73 years; his grandson, Chad Cole; brothers, Onnie Cole, Glenn Cole, Walter Cole, I. J. Cole, and Clyde Cole; and a sister, Ruth Barney.Edgar graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, and served as a preacher for more than 60 years. He pastored at Three Forks Baptist Church, Old Fields Baptist Church, and Friendly Grove Baptist Church in Ashe County, Cross Memorial Baptist Church in Burke County, and Clover Baptist Church in Caldwell County. During his thirty years of retirement, Edgar was interim pastor and supplied in surrounding churches of Burke County. He honored the Lord with his love and faithfulness.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Mount Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble and Rev. Scott Shoffner officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. at the church.
