Edgar "Turtle" Samuel Jones

Edgar "Turtle" Samuel Jones, III died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at his residence following a sudden illness. Born in Cumberland County, NC on September 20, 1969, he was the son of Elizabeth Ann Duckworth Jones and the late Edgar Samuel Jones, Jr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edgar Samuel Jones, Sr. and Mildred Pearson, and his maternal grandparents, Charles and Myrtle Duckworth. Turtle was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He worked for Vocational Rehab and delivered for the News Herald. He loved to play softball and had played on several teams for the Morganton Industrial League.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Childers Jones of the home; children, Amber Elizabeth Jones of Kiln, MS, Kaylie Eliza Jones of the home, Steven Chase Jones of Morganton, and Zachary Childers of the home; his mother, Ann Jones of Morganton; a brother, Justin Jones of Connelly Springs, NC; sisters, April Richardson and Annamaria Jones of Morganton; and fourteen nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 19th, 2006 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Reverends Tommy Lineberger, Bill Holland and Roy Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside rites to be performed by the Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
