Edward Phifer Puett, 87, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 after a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on August 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Gilbert Vaughn Puett and Wavie Lou Arney Puett. Ed was employed by the Morganton Food Store and retired from Broughton Hospital. He was a member of the North Carolina National Guard for over 40 years. He attended Hartland Baptist Church.
Left to cherish Ed’s memory are two sons, Robert E. Puett and his wife, Debbie, of Marion, NC and Randy A. Puett and his wife, Barbara, of Lenoir, NC; grandchildren, Heather, Bethany, Amber, Kimberly, and Robbie; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Puett of Morganton; and sisters, Charlotte Rector and her husband, Bert, of Lenoir, NC and Betty Randall of Asheville, NC.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Johnsie Costner Puett; a brother, William Puett; and two sisters, Margaret Baker and Myrtle Hood.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
