Eileen Mary Ahrens Miller, 89 of Morganton died Wednesday, October 1, 2014. She was born on July 4, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Raymond and Dorothy Loof Ahrens. Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for many years where she was the past president and former treasurer of the St. Charles Ladies Guild. She taught CCD and chaired the 1982 Christmas Fair. She retired from North Carolina National Bank (presently Bank of America) after many years of service. Mrs. Miller was also involved in the Nouveau Extension Homemaker’s Club as president, secretary/treasurer, craft chairman and was appointed treasurer of the SW District Extension Homemakers. She was a Grace Hospital Pink Lady, member of the American Business Women’s Association Ways and Means Committee as past treasurer and president in 1984 and Woman of the Year in 1984.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Ormond Miller.
Surviving are sons, Gregory and wife, Brenda Miller of Wake Forest, NC, Mark and wife, Kelly Miller of Apex, NC; brother, Edward Ahrens of Long Island, NY; sister, Joan Wickman of Las Vegas, NV; 4 grandchildren, Hayden, Daniel, Jack, and Benjamin Miller; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Father Ed Sheridan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. After the service, the family will gather at the residence on Canoe Drive.
