Eileen Poteat

Eileen Poteat, 80, of Cross Creek Drive in Morganton died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Burke County on January 16, 1929.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Thad M. Poteat of the home; daughters, Debra Poteat Mabe of Atlanta, GA, and Lisa McNeely and her husband, Cyrus C. McNeely of Morganton; grandchildren, Shannon Long and Jimmy Long, both of Valdese, Mary Eileen McNeely of Mooresville, NC, and Kilpatrick McNeely of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Aikens, and sisters, Barbara Oliver and her husband, Jimmy, and Leta Fulbright and her husband, Herman, all of Drexel, NC.She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Jim Aikens of Drexel.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Center, Valdese General Hospital, P.O. Box 700, Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
