Eleanor Ellis Hollifield Martin

Eleanor Ellis Hollifield Martin, 92, of the Shaire Center in Lenoir, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born April 25, 1917 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Glenn Beecher Hollifield and Claude James Howell Hollifield. Eleanor was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bostic, NC.She is survived by daughters, Amelia Stokely and husband, Joe of Chapel Hill, and Gloria Hogan and husband, Bobby of Morganton; grandchildren, Paula, Georgina, and Nicholas Gajewski, Jamie, Robert, and Matt Stokely, and Lauren Hogan; sisters, Marguerite Barnes of Rutherfordton, and Norma McEachern of Charlotte; and a brother, Bert Hollifield of Winston-Salem, NC.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burrell Harris Martin; a daughter, Judith Gajewski; sisters, Louise Keeter and Lillian Hollifield; and brothers, Roger, Linwood, and Nicholas Hollifield.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Bostic with Rev. Clay Earle officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 225, Bostic, NC 28018. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
