Committal
Eleanor Summers, 79 of Morganton, NC passed away, Friday, October 27, 2023. Born on July 25, 1944, she was the daughter to the late Lyman and Nannie Hart. Eleanor was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganton where she loved the beautiful music and playing hand-bells. She was a member of the Rotary, Service League, and the Nouveau Group. Eleanor loved the memories she made during the 15 years with the NC Cooperative Extension. She loved her family who she was devoted to her whole life to, sacrificing her own pleasures for them. Eleanor was a very strong willed, determined and organized lady.
Eleanor is survived by her sons, Patrick Summers, Jr. (Chastity) and Darren Thomas Summers (Heather); granddaughter, Kyleigh Summers; step-grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan and Karson Bollinger; 5 step great-grandchildren; 1st cousins, Graydon Tripp (Melba).
In addition to her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her aunt and uncle who raised her, F. McCoy “Coy” Tripp and Bertha Hart Tripp.
A celebration of life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amorem Hospice of Burke County.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Eleanor was a lovely person who kept a positive outlook throughout her life. Her strength of character, respect and kindness toward others was exemplary. Darren and Patrick, many, many folks loved Eleanor, a fine lady.
Eleanor was a special friend. She did indeed constantly give for the welfare of her family. I strongly admired her strength and push to live.

I worked with Eleanor for many years and considered her a friend and respected colleague. She gave me valuable insight through the years and she did much good in the community she served. She will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss.
