Elizabeth Burgess Burns

Elizabeth Burgess Burns, 80, of Morganton, died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 after several years of declining health. She was born March 31, 1931 in Burke County to the late Roby Burgess and Roena Curtis Burgess. Mrs. Burns was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a retired seamstress with Skyland Textiles.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hickman Burns; and a brother, Deward Burgess.Mrs. Burns is survived by her daughter, Carol Mills of Caldwell County; sisters Verna Dean Burgess Shuping and her husband, Leon of Morganton, and Emily Burgess Nestor and her husband, Steven of Vale, NC; sisters-in-law, Faye Burgess and Gladys "Sissy" Coffey and her husband, Harold of Morganton; grandchildren, Shannon, Andrew, and Stacie; and great-grandchildren, Michalla, Amber, and Keith; a special niece, Elizabeth Shuping Silvey and her husband, Mark of Morganton; and a number of other nephews and nieces.The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Brady Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., prior to the service.
