Elizabeth “Lib” A. Alexander, 87, of Morganton, NC passed away Friday, August 19, 2016. Born in Burlington, NC on October 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Andrews and Annie Odell Andrews. Lib was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and worked in the nursery for many years. She also worked as office manager of her husband’s optometry practice. Mrs. Alexander loved to volunteer with many organizations in the community. She was a member and past officer of the Morganton Women’s Club, a member and past president of the NC Optometric Association Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Morganton Lioness Club. Lib was also an avid bridge player and played with regular groups.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by her sons, Dr. David Alexander and his wife, Emily, of Morganton, NC, Dr. Michael Alexander and his wife, Libby, of Shelby, NC, and Dr. Steven Alexander and his wife, Christine, of Houston, TX; a daughter, Kathy Alexander Robison and her husband, John, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, John, Jason, Daniel, Julia, Christopher, and Stefan Alexander; and a sister, Francis Kimrey Nolen of Graham, NC.
In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Ray Alexander; a brother, Arnold Andrews; and a sister, Mildred Rogers.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 3pm, Monday, August 22, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. and the Rev. Fred Schuszler officiating.
