Elizabeth “Libby” Waters

Elizabeth “Libby” Waters, 71, of Morganton, NC, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC on April 26, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Joel Walker Smith and Lillie Virginia Norville Moody.

Libby was a devoted family member who cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she was always there to offer support, love, and laughter.

In her free time, Libby enjoyed a variety of activities that brought joy to her life and those around her. She loved talking on the telephone, connecting with friends and family members, and sharing stories and laughter. Fishing was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was also an avid racing fan.

Traveling was another passion of Libby’s, as she embraced new experiences and cultures with open arms. She never missed an opportunity to visit others, spreading her warmth and kindness wherever she went.

Those left to cherish her memory include her significant other, Gary Chester; daughters, Tammy Brackett and Cindy Patton; grandchildren, Cianna Cordell, Caleb Cordell, Robbie Franklin, and Crystal Coan (Will); great-grandchildren, Paisley Duhon and Wells Coan; brothers, Ricky and Randy Roper; and an aunt, Christine Yount.

In addition to her parents, Libby was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Roper.

A celebration of Libby’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2025 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
